A visit to your dentist isn’t always straightforward. Variability in oral health concerns influences our approach to treatments, which is why costs for complex procedures, like dentures, can vary.

Ontario doesn’t have a fixed price for dentures, but as a general overview:

  • A basic set of dentures, for one arch, starts at $1,200 to $2,000.
  • Partial dentures fall within $1,200 to $2,000.
  • Implant-supported dentures can range between $2,000 to $3,500.

Several factors influence the overall cost of dentures, including:

  • The type of denture
  • Material used
  • Customization
  • Complexity of the case
  • Dental clinic and expertise
  • Laboratory costs
  • Additional adjustments

All About Dentures

Dentures are custom-made dental appliances designed to replace missing teeth and restore functionality.

Beyond the aesthetics of a beautiful smile, dentures help support oral health in several ways:

  • Improve chewing and digestion by replacing missing teeth.
  • Restore the structure and appearance of your face, preventing the “sunken” look caused by tooth loss.
  • Enhance speech clarity for those with missing teeth.
  • Boost self-confidence, helping wearers embrace their beautiful smile.

Without the support of dentures to replace missing teeth, patients run the risk of experiencing:

  • Bone loss: Missing teeth often leads to bone resorption in the jaw. Dentures provide structure and support in such cases.
  • Further misalignment: When teeth are missing, the remaining teeth can shift and create misalignments. Dentures help maintain proper alignment.
  • Gum irritation: Dentures reduce the strain on gums that often occurs when chewing with missing teeth.

Types of Dentures

Versatility in denture material and design allows them to accommodate each patient’s unique concern:

  • Complete dentures: When all teeth in the upper or lower arch, or both, are missing, these dentures are used for patients with extensive tooth loss. They sit directly on the gums and require a snug fit for proper function.
  • Partial dentures: These are great for patients who still have some of their natural teeth. They feature a metal or acrylic framework that attaches to the remaining teeth for stability.
  • Implant-supported dentures: This denture is anchored to dental implants, that are surgically placed into the jawbone.  Implant-supported dentures are ideal for those seeking enhanced stability and durability.
  • Immediate dentures: These are temporary solutions placed immediately after tooth extraction, allowing patients to transition smoothly while waiting for permanent dentures.

The Cost of Dentures in Ontario

Because of variability in their design, material, and overall purpose, there is no fixed price for dentures in Ontario. However, we can provide a general overview:

  • A basic set of dentures, for one arch, starts at $1,200 to $2,000.
  • Partial dentures fall within $1,200 to $2,000.
  • Implant-supported dentures can range between $2,000 to $3,500.

Several factors influence the cost of dentures:

  • Type of dentures: The cost varies significantly based on the type of denture. Complete dentures for a full arch are generally less expensive than implant-supported or premium dentures, which offer better aesthetics and durability. Partial dentures fall within a different price range depending on the complexity and number of teeth being replaced.
  • Materials used: Dentures can be made from a variety of materials. Materials, such as porcelain teeth or metal frameworks tend to increase the overall cost due to their durability and natural appearance.
  • Customization: Premium dentures (as opposed to basic, standard ones) are more expensive because they are highly customized to mimic teeth’s natural look and feel. They often involve detailed techniques and adjustments to verify a perfect fit, requiring more time and work.
  • Complexity of the case: Cases requiring extensive preparatory work, such as extractions, oral surgery, or bone grafting, will add to the total cost. Similarly, partial dentures involving more intricate designs or attachments may also increase the price.
  • Dental clinic and expertise: The cost can vary based on the clinic’s location, the level of expertise, and the quality of the service provided. Our Grand West Dental community happily partners with The Denture Center, helping to bring expert denture care into the familiar space of your dentist’s exam chair.
  • Laboratory costs: Dentures are crafted in dental laboratories, and the associated lab fees influence the cost. The technology, materials, and expertise of laboratories all factor into this price.
  • Additional appointments and adjustments: Follow-up visits for fitting adjustments, relining, or repairs may also add to the overall expenditure, especially if significant modifications are necessary.

An initial consultation helps provide a framework for the estimated cost of dentures. During this appointment, the denturist will asses a patient’s oral health, discuss individual needs, and outline the appropriate denture options.

This evaluation helps identify factors such as the type of dentures required, any necessary preparatory treatments, and the choice of materials, all of which impact the total cost.

During this visit, we can address any questions or concerns regarding the procedure’s expense, helping to work within a budget whenever feasible.

Our Approach to Dental Affordability

Our community at Grand West Dental understands that finances can be a barrier to healthcare. Dental treatments can be costly, especially for those without private insurance.

This is why we proudly participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) which offers financial support to eligible Canadians who otherwise find dental care difficult to afford.

This program covers essential procedures including cleanings, fillings, and extractions. Our Grand West Dental team was one of the early adopters of this plan, helping to drive the mission of affordable dental care.

Currently, the CDCP doesn’t cover dentures directly. However, it covers preparatory procedures, such as extractions, making the overall cost of acquiring dentures more manageable for patients.

At Grand West Dental, we aim to bridge the gap by offering flexible payment options and additional resources tailored to denture wearers.
